This summer, Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors and of the United States FIBA World Cup team, will lead both teams. Kerr has tough selections to make with a team full of excellent NBA players. Kerr recently explained his decision to bench New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram.
“We just wаnted to look at some different lineups,” Kerr explained. The challenge of FIBA is that you just have a few weeks to prepare a team. You have two to three times as much time as the NBA season, which lasts six to eight months. We simply wаnted to see how Josh Hart and the first unit performed together and how Brandon Ingram and the second unit fared together. Overall, I was impressed. We haven’t settled on a course of action just yet, but we are exploring our options.
Instead of calling out Ingram’s performance, Kerr said he wаnted to see how Hart would do as a starter and where Ingram would fit with the bench unit. Kerr has used the same lineup for three games in a row and plans to keep using it because of the positive results he has seen.
Team USA has been performing well in this World Cup, and they’ll want to keep it up as they go for a medal.
