Jimmy Butler, the star player for the Miami Heat, has offered a straightforward assessment of the FIBA World Cup: “I don’t care.” While the FIBA World Cup has captivated basketball enthusiasts worldwide, Butler seems disinterested. Despite his active engagement in sports during the offseason, as observed at the US Open in Flushing Meadows, he appears uninterested in one of the most significant basketball tournaments globally.
A journalist, Sasa Ozmo, recently approached Butler for a comment on the FIBA World Cup, but the athlete declined. He made it clear that he had no intention of providing a statement, and succinctly expressed his disinterest, stating, “I don’t care about the World Cup.”
Team USA is currently striving for its sixth Gold Medal in the tournament, and they are considered strong favorites to achieve this goal. However, it’s important to note that the team representing the USA at the FIBA World Cup is not the absolute best roster available, though it remains of high quality. The squad boasts exceptional talents like Anthony Edwards, Austin Reaves, Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Tyrese Haliburton, among others.
Many prominent American players have chosen not to participate in the tournament, a trend that extends to other nations as well. Players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic have opted out of the event. For Jimmy Butler, this disinterest in participating also translates to a general indifference toward the entire tournament.
Team USA is determined to secure its third FIBA World Cup victory in four events and appears well-positioned to do so. However, it seems unlikely that Jimmy Butler will be among those closely following the tournament.
