Miami Heat superstar, Jimmy Butler, is no stranger to his love for tennis, as evidenced by his recent stint as a ball boy during this year’s U.S. Open. What’s more, Butler has cultivated friendships with several tennis luminaries, including World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who is currently striving to defend his U.S. Open title, fresh from his Wimbledon victory last month.
Notably, Butler has even found himself in Alcaraz’s player’s box on occasion, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him there again during the U.S. Open. While perched in the stands, Butler passionately supports Alcaraz, even if he can’t vocally express his enthusiasm during matches.
“I’m itching to shout from the stands,” Butler remarked, as conveyed by WSJ Magazine. “I understand that you can’t do it, but I have this urge to yell, ‘Don’t worry—we’re always in this! He’s going to chase down every ball.'”
Butler is awestruck by the 20-year-old prodigy’s extraordinary skills, a level of determination not seen since the advent of the Big Three over two decades ago.
“It’s incredible to witness live,” Butler marveled. “He never surrenders on any ball; he’ll dive, pull off something miraculous just to attempt getting the ball over the net and winning a point.”
These “miraculous” plays are sure to take center stage when Alcaraz contests his first-round match against German player Dominik Koepfer on Tuesday night.
