Messi’s Miami training ground to be shared with rugby team

The Miami Sharks, a new addition to Major League Rugby, will call this Fort Lauderdale, Florida, facility home for training and home games beginning in the upcoming season.

The club announced that beginning in the first quarter of 2024, the Miami Sharks would join the Inter Miami CF first team, second team, and academy teams at the facilities.

Tomas Cubelli, a 33-year-old scrum-half, gives the Sharks, like Inter Miami, a significant Argentinian presence.

Cubelli has played 89 times for Argentina and is presently participating in the Rugby World Cup for Argentina in France.

“I am very excited to join the Miami Sharks in this exhilarating journey and to move to Miami, the capital of the world of professional sports,” Cubelli remarked upon signing with the team.

Former Argentine national team assistant coach Jose Pellicena will lead the Sharks.

Benjamin Cremaschi, a midfielder for Inter Miami, has a more direct link to the squad because his father Pablo played rugby for Argentina in the 1990s.

Cremaschi, who made his United States debut on Tuesday, told reporters after training that he was “excited for them to get here and get started” on the project.

“It will be great that this area has a rugby team so that the sport can grow here and in this country,” he continued.

Inter Miami plans to keep using the Fort Lauderdale facility for training even when they relocate to a new stadium in Miami itself in 2025.

Twelve clubs compete in what was established as Major League Rugby in 2017.
