Christian Pulisic, the American ‘Captain America’ and Mexico’s worst nemesis

Christian ‘Captain America’ Pulisic turned 25 years old on Monday, September 18. Although the Pennsylvania-born footballer would prefer to shed the superhero moniker and leave it to Landon Donovan’s legendary status, it cannot be denied that the AC Milan star has become a benchmark for the United States’ golden generation.

Despite Mexico’s present possession of the Gold Cup trophy, recent results suggest that it is the United States Međťš—’s National Team that has dominated soccer success in the region. The United States national team has been on a roll against El Tri, and Pulisic has been a major reason for it.

The ex-Chelsea player has scored four goals in the last three games between the United States and Mexico. His two goals in the Concacaf Nations League semi-finals helped propel the United States to the championship game, which they went on to win.

Nonetheless, the player’s response to Guillermo Ochoa’s savory words—that Mexico is “the mirror in which the United States wants to see itself”—was one of his proudest moments. When Pulisic scored in the playoff qualifier, he wore a shirt that read “Man in the Mirror” to comically celebrate.

The winger has a plethora of hardware to his nĐ°me.

Pulisic, who will turn 25 this year, already has an impressive collection of medals and honors to his nĐ°me, including not one but two Concacaf Nations Leagues (in 2021 and 2023).

When Chelsea defeated Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League Final in 2020–2021, Pulisic became only the second American football player to win the tournament. Afterward, he reached and won the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, the American has left the ‘Blues’ after a disastrĐľus season and has already begun a series of new challenges with a Milan team that will seek to be contenders for the Champions League once again, albeit in a group that includes a tough Dortmund side, a Kylian MbappĂ©-fueled PSG… and Newcastle, who they play on Tuesday, September 19 at 12:45 p.m. ET / 9:45 a.m. PT.

under addition, despite speculation that he may be benched for the Champions League, Pulisic will strive to make an impact under Stefano Pioli’s system. His season started off well, but in the 56 minutes he played against Inter, he was invisible.
