Thiago Silva, a star for Chelsea, expressed his disappointment in not being able to play in the Champions League on Twitter

The Brazilian veteran has been instrumental for the Blues over the past several seasons, but he hasn’t been having the best of luck as of late. Last season, Chelsea placed 12th in the Premier League, their second-worst showing in the league since its inception.

The two-time Champions League winners were dealt a devastating loss as they were eliminated from European competition. Silva expressed his displeasure at not being able to participate in the 2023–24 season’s opening night match on X, formerly Twitter.

The Brazilian center back has won the trophy once, in the 2020/21 season with Chelsea. However, he was injured after only 39 minutes of game time in the championship match against Manchester City.

After last year’s Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, he previously took aim at Chelsea owner Todd Boehly. I believe the initial step has been taken,” Silva stated. It was a wrong move, yet it was made. We can’t pass the buck off on the managers forever. The club is going through a tough time right now, marked by much indecision.

We had to expand the locker room because the previous one wasn’t big enough after a change of ownership and the addition of new players. Though the presence of great players on the roster is cause for celebration, discontent is inevitable.

Because of course some people are going to be miffed that they can’t participate. It must be difficult for the manager to choose just 11 players from a squad of 30 or so. We recruited eight players in January, and some of them won’t even make the squad. We have to stop and figure out what we’re doing, otherwise we’ll make the same mistakes again next season.
