Real Madrid need to sign a new right-back in the near future. Dani Carvajal is a club legend but he is no longer the player that he was in his prime. His two cover options right now are Lucas Vazquez and Nacho Fernandez. It goes without saying that that is an area of the pitch where Los Blancos need to bring in reinforcements as soon as possible.
Rumours have constantly linked them with Reece James of Chelsea. There have been suggestions that he is the club’s top target when it comes to the right-back position.
It is not hard to understand why. At 23 years of age, he would be a long-term solution for Real Madrid at right-back. He has the potential to be the best right-back in the world if he can put his injury problems behind him.
It remains to be seen if the Blues are open to the idea of letting their new captain go though. As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Chelsea could ponder asking Real Madrid for Valverde, in exchange for James.
Chelsea could offer James in swap for Real Madrid player
Valverde is considered to be an integral part of this Real Madrid team. Thus, it is hard to imagine that the club would be too keen to let him leave in any swap deal.
Also, Valverde’s transfer value is believed to be quite a bit higher than that of James. So, it would definitely have to be a player-plus-fee offer at the very least.
It will be interesting to see what Real Madrid decide to do abut their right-back situation next summer. Other than James, they have been linked with quite a few other right-backs as well. Now, it remains to be seen what path they decide to take regarding the situation.
