Jimmy Butler is a big fan of ‘GOAT’ Lionel Messi

The revelation that Lionel Messi will soon grace the pitch for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer has sent ripples of excitement throughout South Florida’s sports community, particularly among the Miami Heat players currently captivating fans in the NBA Finals.

Messi, who recently disclosed his imminent move to the club co-owned by the iconic English footballer David Beckham, had Heat playmaker Jimmy Butler eagerly anticipating his arrival.

“He’s one of the greatest players to ever embrace that beautiful game,” remarked Butler on Thursday. “I’m ecstatic for the city of Miami to have a player of his caliber amongst us. With him here, I believe football and soccer enthusiasts from around the globe will converge on our city to witness his brilliance. I’m genuinely thrilled that he’s here.”

While Butler acknowledged having met Messi, they aren’t particularly close acquaintances. When asked if he’d reach out to the footballing legend, Butler responded, “Probably not. I know he’s got a lot on his plate. He’s come here to make a significant impact on our city, and I respect that. I’m just glad he’s here. We’ll connect whenever the time is right.”

Miami’s Kyle Lowry, a devoted Messi fan, humorously remarked on the Argentine’s considerable financial gain with the move, saying, “Man, he’s getting a lot of money. It’s going to be awesome … I’m a Messi fan. MLS is a great league, and they know how to showcase their product. Bringing one of the world’s greatest football players here is going to be fantastic.”

Lowry also anticipated that Messi’s presence would expand the fan base, increase revenue, and elevate the overall atmosphere, especially once the stadium is completed. “It’s great for soccer in America, particularly here in Miami,” he emphasized.

Heat teammate Gabe Vincent lauded Messi’s decision, even though it meant turning down a more lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club. “I think it was a smart move on his part. The deal looks like a no-brainer from what I’ve seen,” Vincent commented.

However, not all Heat players are fervent soccer enthusiasts. Swingman Max Strus admitted, “To be honest, I don’t really watch it that much. I don’t know a lot about soccer. I know who Messi is. It’s pretty cool to have him in our city. Can’t wait to meet him, if he comes to a game.”
