After buying the new stadium for £65 million, Boehly’s Chelsea change keeps going.
One of the founders of Chelsea’s owning group said that the club’s budget could be cut by as much as £80 million, which could cause a lot of players to leave.Since taking over at Stamford Bridge, Todd Boehly and his team haven’t been afraid to spend a lot of money. However, it looks like a few players could be cut if the team needs to save money.
Clearlake, one of Chelsea’s co-owners, wants to cut the club’s overall spending by £80 million after a big spending spree since the group took over from Roman Abramovich last year. Up to 13 of Maurizio Pochettino’s top players are being looked at as possible sales.
This is true even though Chelsea is said to be teaming up with US alternative asset management company Ares Management, which is going to give the club £404 million in cash. But Clearlake co-founder Jose Feliciano explained what the Blues should do next, which is to make big cuts.
Feliciano said at the IPEM private equity conference, “We bought an asset that a lot of other people want to buy.” “In the end, we have a lot in common with those fans and supporters, because the best way to increase the value of our club is to win.” The team’s first season, which was also our first season, was hard. We have a lot of great people working for us.”

He also said, “I think what we’re trying to do is cut the business’s salaries and operating costs by more than $100m (£80.6m) per year.”
Even though not all of the £80m cuts will come from the team’s pay bill, a big chunk of it is likely to be cut. Up to five stars could also be sold, which would save around £40m, which is half of Feliciano’s goal.
Romelu Lukaku could leave, even though it has been hard to get rid of him in the past. According to Sportrac, he has already taken a pay cut from his £16.9m-a-year salary because Pochettino doesn’t need him. He is on loan at Roma for the year, but he is expected to leave for good, and he could be one of the first players to leave.
Marc Cucurella is another expensive player who hasn’t worked out for Chelsea. He and his £9.1m salary could leave, even though a late-summer loan to Manchester United fell through. When the January transfer window opens, he is expected to look for a new team, since Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill have been playing left back more often.
Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah, who play in the middle of the defense for Chelsea, make a combined £8.8 million a year. However, neither of them has played for the team yet this season, so they may be let go in January.
Hakim Ziyech is currently on loan at Galatasaray, but Chelsea will want to get rid of him for good. Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr decided not to sign him because of injury concerns found in his medical, but Chelsea will want to get rid of his £5.2 million salary because it could help Feliciano and the rest of the team cut the wage bill.
