After limping off days before the Inter Miami Cup final, an injury update for Lionel Messi is released.

After being pulled after just 36 minutes in Miami’s 4-0 victory over Toronto FC, Inter Miami boss Gerardo Martino has acknowledged that Lionel Messi’s future availability will likely be constrained.

Lionel Messi return for Inter Miami was a short one

Following his return from international duty, Messi missed last weekend’s 5-2 loss to Atlanta United, but he was back in the lineup today. Martino acknowledged that the Argentine was experiencing ‘ muscular weariness’ after a hectic start to life in Miami following Sunday’s defeat in Georgia.

Despite the worries, Messi played again on Thursday. He was forced to leave the game with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, though, and was replaced by Robert Taylor.

Because of his injury on Wednesday, there are concerns that Messi won’t be able to participate in the US Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo next week. Miami, who has already won the first Leagues Cup, will be vying for their second trophy of the year.

Messi’s old Barcelona colleague Jordi Alba also departed the field shortly after Messi did against the Canadian team, making the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner from Miami not the only player to leave the game early. Due to doubts about his fitness, Alba, like the Argentine, missed last weekend’s defeat at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Manager Martino said after the game that his two key players had “no chance” of competing in this weekend’s encounter against Orlando City, but he also assured Inter supporters that their injuries were not “serious.” They have no chance of participating in the Orlando game, he said.

“However, I don’t believe there are any major or muscular injuries. I believe it is simply weariness. Many people won’t be surprised by Martino’s caution over Messi given the Miami team’s hectic upcoming schedule, which includes a matchup with Houston Dynamo in the U.S. Open Cup Final later this month.

The Miami manager alluded to this by saying, “We have a lot of important matches in a short window of time.”One of my duties as the coach is to look out for my players and assist them in making the tough choices that will increase our chances of keeping everyone healthy over this busy stretch.

This Saturday, when Inter plays their opponents from Florida, Orlando, the frenetic streak continues. Three days later, against Houston, Messi and company will try to win their second trophy. Then, in the next 20 days, they will play five league games against Cincinnati FC, New York City, Chicago Fire, and Charlotte FC.
