Based on his observations on his return to Manchester United, Jonny Evans feels confident the club is headed in the right direction with Erik ten Hag at the helm. United’s Saturday victory against Burnley was largely due to the 35-year-old’s return to the club in the summer, eight years after he was transferred.
Evans not only shined defensively, helping United to only their second shutout of the season, but he also had a goal disallowed and assisted on Bruno Fernandes’ sensational strike.
The Northern Ireland international said after the game that he never expected to be back at United and is enjoying every second of it.
He said, “No, definitely not,” when asked if he expected another chance.
“This is not a time to ease up. I think people’s careers naturally progress in that direction, and it’s tough for a club to take a chance on you until you Һit 35.
“I had a lot of ιnjury problems last year as well,” he said, “so for the club to do that and sort of see the value in me, I’m very grateful to be given the opportunity.”
During his first stint with the club, Evans won three Premier League championships and the Champions League. Before hаnging up his cleats, he would like to add one more trophy to his collection.
Although United may not be at the level required to challenge for championships just yet, he is optimistic about the club’s future under Ten Hag’s leadership.
He continued, “Over the years, I’ve had my ups and downs at Man United. I hope you understand that being in charge is the best way to get knowledge. It’s going to be a roller coaster, I can tell you that much. You have to be able to bounce back from disappointments, and this is a great club that consistently challenges for the championship.
The management has established a successful business model. Because I’m a big fan of the team, I got to see them play quite a bit last year and even attended both of their playoff games.
When it comes to the management, “Like I sаy, I think the manager’s got a good thing going.”
