LeBron James Jr., affectionately known as Bronny, continues to recover from his cardiac arrest earlier this year and was absent from the University of Southern California’s (USC) basketball team’s first practice for the upcoming season.
USC coach Andy Enfield confirmed Bronny’s absence during a press conference on Monday, September 25, emphasizing that Bronny’s health status couldn’t be discussed in detail.
Enfield, 54, informed reporters that Bronny is progressing well and is actively attending classes while excelling in his studies. Enfield added, “His grades are excellent right now, and he’s being the true student-athlete.” Bronny is making the most of his recovery period by focusing on his academic commitments.
While awaiting Bronny’s return to the court, Coach Enfield anticipates that the young athlete will continue to be a valuable asset to the team. Enfield praised Bronny’s dedication to his teammates, highlighting his passion for winning and his strong personal connections with fellow players. Enfield noted that this attitude is contagious within the team.
In July, Bronny experienced a cardiac arrest during a USC basketball workout and was subsequently hospitalized. A spokesperson for the James family confirmed that Bronny was in stable condition and no longer in the intensive care unit at the time. LeBron James, Bronny’s father, expressed gratitude to fans for their support and prayers.
Bronny was discharged from the hospital on the same day. LeBron and his wife, Savannah James, have two other children, Bryce (16) and Zhuri (8).
Last month, the James family disclosed that Bronny’s cardiac arrest was attributed to a significant congenital heart defect, which is treatable. Coach Enfield and the USC team remain hopeful for Bronny’s return to the basketball court, emphasizing the need for patience and a step-by-step approach to his recovery.
