Steph Curry exercising with CP3 at training camp; Jumbotron; San Quentin; GP2; defense; Poole

It’s too long to include all of the titles here on Substack. I would have termed this “DubNation Digest,” like I used to publish back in 2015–16. Sadly, the data transfer with TheSportsDaily was too complicated, so all of those still exist there [link]. As I mentioned in the previous post, we’ll keep a kind of near-daily “diary.” In fact, there was enough material available to accomplish this in the off-season!

With the exception of the training camp Day 1 video, which is at the bottom, the following is listed in chronological order according to when they were mentioned in the news, if applicable.

• Among the activities the players engaged in were playing giant blue-and-gold Jenga, drawing self-portraits, drawing other players (like Klay Thompson on his boat), chanting “Warriors” (see the next bullet point), blowing through a straw to move ping-pong balls across a table, dancing while wearing sunglasses and a gold chain with the Warriors logo, and apparently speed-putting. Additionally, Stephen Curry redrew his Davidson rap video, which GSW social recently shared. A few of these were teased in the Media Day bts video:

• The team uploaded a video of Andrew Wiggins attempting to stop people from screaming “Warriors!”, failing, and then trying again. The video has gone viral. Chris Paul objected to the shout in the video we showed above as well, but more because it seemed strange to be the team’s archenemy for eternity. Paul asserted that he would require “baby steps” in order to perform the chorus.

• Although not yet during preseason games, fans can expect to see these entertaining events on the Jumbotron at Chase Center and occasionally by the Golden State Warriors social media staff.

PERSPECTIVE OF JORDAN POOLE

This will be my final mention of Jordan Poole until the Warriors play the Washingtоn Wizards, trust me when I sаy that it’s time to move on. However, just in case…

• On their Media Day (the same day as GSW), Candace Buckner of the Washingtоn Post questioned Poole about The PuncҺ, or at least made a hint about it:

[Regarding inquiries from previous year:] “I don’t have any answers for that. Other than that, we can discuss anything else. Still, those? Nothing at all. merely because they [were] asking all of these things last year, and it’s so far removed today. You can inquire, but I’ll respond with something that sounds a lot like bullsҺit.

..

Wizards teammate Kyle Kuzma responded, “I can only speak for myself,” when asked what other players in the league might have thought of Poole following the incident. “In my opinion, one should not judge a book by its cover. I didn’t even know Jordan, but we shared the same CAA representation, so that shocked the entire world and the NBA. Because I was aware of his character, it is now a pleasure to be in his presence.

..

He was unwilling to talk about the specific incident, saying, “If [reporters] ask me—NEXT! Next question!” spoke Poole. He didn’t avoid every subject, though.

Did the PuncҺ change the way others saw you? If that makes sense, I believe that everyone can have an impact on whatever that they do. Opinions will be expressed as with anything else, since I don’t think anyone truly realized what had transpired. You know what I meаn, even if you’re just strolling down the street with a hoodie over your head? Everyone is going to have an opinion.

Do you find it annoying that other people are still talking about the incident a lot? People these days feel cоmpelled to express who they are. I’m not in need of it. I honestly don’t give a dаmn. Really, hoops is all that matters to me. Everything extra? No matter how laid-back or cool you are, they will eventually find something to talk about.

CP3, TJD, KLAY, VISIT SAN QUENTIN

This occurred last Wednesday, but because of the weekend’s San Francisco 49ers coverage, it didn’t appear on KTVU2 until Monday:

Although it’s clear from the video and the fact that he is no longer with GSW, Klay, CP, and Trayce Jackson-Davis did not play, and neither did yearly San Quentin participant Bob Myers. Instead, assistant general manager Kent Lacob, a former Menlo School varsity player, represented the Warriors. Klay was right when he said Sam Quentin would prevail.

Marcus Thompson of The Athletic was also present and tweeted some ambiguous compliments regarding Klay; however, as of this writing, the article has not yet been published. The news that Joe Lacob and Peter Guber would be purchasing a WNBA expansion franchise has been widely publicized by “MT2,” and it gained more momentum today when the Warriors announced that they would be making a “major announcement” at Chase Center early tomorrow morning. That plus a summer wrap-up feature on Steph about golf and charities have likely caused MT2’s San Quentin story to be postponed.

GP2 PHRASES

• In addition to GP2 and Young Glove, Gary Payton II also goes by the nicknames “Newcastle” and “Agent Zero”:

* Typically selected by assistant coach Khalid Robinson, a few of the songs are “Tuscan Leather” by Drake, “soso” by Omah Lay, “The Ruler’s Back” by Jay-Z, and “SkeeYee” by Sexxy Red.

• The Athletic’s Anthony Slater captured CP3, Curry, and Bruce “Q” Fraser practicing some pass-hand-off sequences on camera. Steve Kerr (see the video and transcript below) indicated that CP will start this Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

• Kendric Davis returned to the gym at 8:00 p.m. to work out.

The behind-the-scenes montage, which included Slater’s video of a “Һit-and-handoff,” is available here:
