After two years with the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors bolstered their frontcourt by signing Spanish power forward Usman Garuba for the upcoming 2023-2024 NBA season.
The new season is about to begin, and head coach Steve Kerr is excited to have such a promising young player on his roster.
The four-time Golden State winner discussed his new player in a press conference.
In order to be successful in the NBA, “I think Usman has a pretty good sense of who he is,” Kerr said of Usman.
Having a sense of who you are and what you bring to the court, knowing your role and sticking to it.
However, Kerr praised Garuba for his court skills.
“I’m excited to have him here, he’s only 21 years old and he was a first round draft pick for a reason, he’s a talented player and he’s working hard,” he said.
I’m enjoying the opportunity to guide him as a coach.
The 58-year-old trainer commented on the parallels between his play and that of Draymond Green.
I’m not sure if I would put them in the same category, but they certainly share some characteristics. They’re both such аggressive players,” he said.
When asked to address the media, Usman Garuba said.
The former Real Madrid star spoke for the first time as a member of the Warriors during the media day.
I believe I can contribute to the team by always delivering 110% of my effort. ‘I just want to help you win,’ he declared.
Performance in the NBA
In 99 games over two seasons with the Houston Rockets, Destiny Usman Garuba Alari has averaged 2.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 12.2 minutes per game.
It’s worth noting that he was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks and then the Oklahoma City Thunder in the month of July this year.
The Golden State Warriors signed him to a two-year contract on September 15.
On October 24, the San Francisco franchise will welcome the Phoenix Suns at Chase Center for the season opener.
A few hours earlier on the same day, the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets will take on the Los Angeles Lakers.
