With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Chris Paul all meeting the “star” criteria the NBA has set up because to their recent honors, the Warriors will have four players directly affected by the new rules prohibiting load management. Notable among the exceptions is Klay Thompson, who hasn’t made an All-NBA squad or an All-Star team in each of the past three seasons due to ιnjury.
As a result, the Warriors will have more leeway to bench Thompson when necessary. Since Thompson has just had ACL and Achilles tendon tears, he needs special attention to ensure that he is healthy for the big games. Conversely, Thompson would prefer that the Warriors not encase him in bubble wrap. In fact, he want to participate in as many games as possible, with an 82-game season being the ultimate goal, as reported by Jason Dumas of KRON 4 News.
However, as Dumas pointed out, Klay Thompson considers playing in at least 70 of the Warriors’ regular-season games to be a “win,” which is accurate given that doing so would prove he has indeed fully recovered from the lower-body issues that have plagued him in the past.
Thompson came within one game of playing in 70 last season, which is a tremendous accomplishment given that he only returned to the hardwood in January of this year (2022). He seems to be making steady progress in putting his ιnjury-plagued history behind him.
In the first half of the season, he missed the second game of a back-to-back 11 times out of 13. However, he started suiting up in both games of the back-to-back set in February, which is encouraging for his chances of having a successful 2023-24 season in which he participates in 70+ games, which is on the lower range of outcomes for his ambitions for the upcoming season.
Klay Thompson may end up being the most reliable player for the Dubs this season now that Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins can all be rotated in and out of the starting lineup at will. Now let’s hope he can forget his terrible performance in the 2023 playoffs and help lead them to another title.
