Warriors’ early preseason triumph against the Lakers shows thing Chris Paul and company are clicking

When the Golden State Warriors last faced the Los Angeles Lakers, they were disjointed, one-dimensional, and out of the playoffs. After a five-month hiatus, the reformed Warriors are back.

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers both missed the opening game of the preseason due to ιnjury. However, the Warriors’ starting five was superior to the Lakers’ starting five.

It will take time for the starters to rediscover their rhythm, but they looked solidly in sync in Saturday night’s 125-108 victory. Everyone who showed up to the game played for at least six minutes.

The primary objective for the Warriors coming into camp was fixing the chemistry issues that plagued them last season. All-team mini-camps were held over the summer to get the supporting cast of Green, Klay Thompson, and Steph Curry ready for October.

The Warriors’ new lineup looked comfortable with each other despite the slow tempo of preseason play. Due to Green’s absence, Warriors guard Chris Paul got his long-awaited start alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney for the first half. Quickly after Curry moved, Paul found him on a pick-and-pop for his first 3-pointer of the season.

“Chris is amazing,” remarked head coach Steve Kerr. He’s a fantastic passer and always keeps things simple. As a coach, you can enjoy the game because you can rest assured that he will consistently make the appropriate play. Because he can feel the tempo of the game, he can tell us when to slow down and when to rush into an action.

Although Paul usually leads the second team in minutes played, he was only used in the first unit on Saturday. In just 13 minutes, he recorded six points and five assists.

Thompson, who started at the 4, shot 2-for-7 from deep and grabbed four boards in 13 minutes. Thompson needs to get in game shape by playing in almost all of the preseason games. This is in stark contrast to the previous year, when Thompson declined to play pick-up throughout the offseason, showed up to camp unprepared, and sat out the majority of the preseason.

“Klay did a really good job on the block,” Kerr remarked. He did a good job of holding him up when Rui Hachimura posted him up on the block a couple of times. Since Klay is so powerful, he can easily protect a group of four.

Thompson will have to step up as a defender and rebounder off the bench because of the team’s lack of size. On Saturday, he went after boards hard but only pulled in four, with two of those being easy grabs. In his allotted time, Jonathan Kuminga showed aggression and decisiveness. He fit in with the Warriors’ system nicely during the first half’s deliberate pace and showed off his skills in the second. The 21-year-old’s performance, in which he scored a team-high 24 points, culminated in a transition slam off a lob from guard Kendric Davis late in the fourth quarter. He played for 23 minutes and shot 4 for 8 from deep while also dishing out 8 assists, although he committed 5 first-half turnovers.

All of it stems from their unwavering faith in me. Kuminga vowed, “Every day, I will do my best to re-earn their trust.” Having more confidence in my position and realizing that this is a pivotal year for the squad as a whole has helped me settle in quickly. Because of the unique things that we can accomplish together, being here fills me with joy and excitement.

If Kuminga improves in his third season, that could be huge for a Warriors team with a smaller roster that needs all the athleticism it can get.

Brandin Podziemski, making his NBA debut, played point guard for the second unit and looked much more comfortable than he did in Summer League. He shot 5/10 from the field for 11 points and added 4/5 boards and assists.

After admitting, “I was a little nervous at first,” To quote Gary Paytin II: “When GP (Gary Paytin II) came in 30 seconds after me, he told me to pick up full court like I did in practice, and from there I felt like I belonged.”

Moses Moody, who is beginning his third season with the team, scored 15 points and grabbed five boards while dishing out two assists.

On Friday, October 5th, the Warriors will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers in their second preseason contest.
