What we learned as Warriors’ youngsters shine in win vs. Lakers

Young players seeking to make their mark and those vying for bench roles dominate preseason basketball. Before the Warriors’ 125-108 opening-night victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, all eyes were on their 38-year-old point guard.

Warriors fans gave Chris Paul a warm greeting, and he wasted no time in giving them a taste of what they can expect from him this year. Paul filled up the stat sheet with 13 first-half minutes of action. The point guard who prefers to pass rather than score scored six points and dished out five assists and pulled down four boards in his Warriors debut.

Besides him in the starting lineup were Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney. Both Curry and Thompson scored 18 points in 13 minutes of action, with Curry contributing eight and Thompson ten. There has been a focus on getting оffensive rebounds and crashing the glass, and Thompson finished with four rebounds, which is about his season-long average.

For the Lakers, LeBron James and Austin Reaves were both out of commission.

Three key points from the Warriors’ exhibition opener are discussed here.
