It was all thanks to Steph Curry that Lil Wayne and Skip Bayless became good friends

In an explosive interview with GQ Sports, controversial sports commentator Skip Bayless and rapper Lil Wayne opened out about their unlikely friendship and explained how Stephen Curry, star of the Golden State Warriors, played a role in bringing them together.

According to Bayless, 71, he met Wayne 15 years ago when they were both working for ESPN’s “First Take.” The rapper was scheduled to appear on the program as a special guest, and the sports commentator immediately saw his potential.

Only Wayne, at 41 years old, agreed with Bayless that Curry was a more promising player than Blake Griffin.

“Two things came up in that meeting that really raised my eyebrows,” said Bayless. I was familiar with your writing, but I had no idea who you were or how well-versed you were in sports. But the time of Steph Curry’s selection was drawing near, and I was a big fan of Steph Curry while he was at Davidson. I was pleasantly surprised to hear you choose Steph above Blake Griffin.

Blake Griffin’s ability to make incredible leaps from the gym floor made him an instant sensation at ESPN. However, [Griffin] remained at Oklahoma for two years, and the best players don’t stick around for that long. From more than a foot away, he was hopeless!

‘Undisputed’ with Lil Wayne

Since then, Wayne has become a regular on FS1’s “Undisputed,” making an appearance there every Friday.

After Shannon Sharpe departed the firm, the rapper recorded the show’s original theme song and then composed a new one.

Bayless and Wayne continued by talking about how Curry outplayed Griffin during a game between Davidson and Oklahoma.

They also shed light on the reactions of others, particularly Bayless’ wife Ernestine, who is too close of a friend to Wayne.
