There have been allegations that Thompson and the Warriors are at an impasse over a contract extension, so Thompson posted a video to Instagram set to Tupac’s “Me Against the World” with the comment, “The type an energy I’m on all season.”
Thompson often plays with this mindset, so it’s possible that this has nothing to do with the latest report concerning his contract. Having said that, the Warriors star now has even more reason to have a great season, as this is likely his last chance to secure long term money in the NBA.
Thompson and the Warriors both seem eager to reach an agreement, so it’s possible that they’ll do so before the upcoming season begins, but it’s also possible that they won’t. Although this creates further questions, it may not be the worst case for Thompson and the club if they decide to wait until the end of the season to see what makes the most sense.
Keeping a core intact for this long is extremely unusual, and the Warriors would love for Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to finish their careers with the team.
