Kevin Durant loves Golden State and the idea of retiring his jersey there: I’d love it

Kevin Durant discusses retiring his jersey in the Bay Area.

During Durant’s tenure with the Warriors, the team won two titles and advanced to the NBA Finals three times. In 2017 and 2018, he was also voted Most Valuable Player by the Finals’ voting panel.

However, having him in Northern California dulled the excitement of the league overall. With only one loss in 2017 and five in 2018, the Warriors have won two consecutive championships. Furthermore, he was frequently blamed for giving up easily.

Still, as Durant noted, the possibility of a third consecutive title is unprecedented. Since the 2012–13 Miami Heat, no team has won back-to-back titles. They also joined an elite club of teams that have accomplished this feat since the year 2000.

In 2019, Durant decided to leave the Warriors and join the Brooklyn Nets. After leaving the Golden State Warriors, he was never again in contention for a title. Near the trade deadline in 2023, the Nets sent Durant to the Phoenix Suns. Since then, Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal have formed a formidable Big Three for the Suns.

Is it likely that the San Francisco Giants will one day retire Durant’s jersey?
