The Los Angeles Lakers dropped their season opener to the Denver Nuggets, and LeBron James became visibly upset with his role in the team’s loss. At one point during the game, he reminds coach Darvin Ham that he can also function as a point guard.
Clearly implying that he would rather not watch from the bench when the outcome of the game is in doubt. He decided to stand out from the rest of his team after the game by criticizing the system. James scored 21 points, grabbed 8 boards, and dished out 5 assists in the final tally. He made an appearance alongside Anthony Davis, who was also disheartened to address the media.
James was grilled on his own play and Darvin Ham’s methodology. LeBron James didn’t hold back, but he also shown that he isn’t focused on the team’s end goal. His postgame comments were as follows: “Even though we didn’t win, but for me, my performance and what I did individually in the time that I was out there, I think I was effective. With zero giveaways, I was still a net plus for the team. Of course I’d rather be playing, especially in close games or when I think I can make a difference, but there’s a system in place, so I’ll have to abide by it.
