NBA sources have Tyler Herro of the Heat saying, ‘My goal is to become untouchable in trade talks’

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, who has been linked to trade speculations all offseason, is working hard to prove his worth to the team.

They wоn’t be interested in trаding fоr me аfter this seаsоn. аnd thаt’s whаt I intend tо dо.”

For a long time, it was believed that the Heat were offering Damian Lillard, then of the Portland Trail Blazers, in a trade to the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to Chiang’s interview with Herro, Herro explained that he never asked to be traded during the Lillard rumors because “[the Heat] told me it wasn’t going to happen.”

Marc J. Spears of ESPN Andscape reports that the Heat tried to trade Lillard to the Blazers for guard/forward Danilo Herro and two first-round choices.

After negotiating with the Bucks and the Suns, the Trail Blazers were able to acquire Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, a first-round selection in 2029, and two first-round pick swaps.

Holiday was traded to the Boston Celtics by the Portland Trail Blazers for Robert Williams III, Malcolm Brogdon, and first-round choices in 2024 and 2029.

When the Miami Heat drafted Kentucky’s Tyler Herro with the 13th overall choice in the 2019 NBA draft, few expected him to live up to the hype.

Herro spent the majority of his first three seasons as a reserve, and in 2021-22, he was honored as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year after posting career highs in points (20.7 per game), rebounds (5.0 per game), assists (4.0 per game), and three-pointers (2.7 per game).

Herro started every one of the 67 games he played in last year, and while his scoring average dropped to 20.1, his averages for rebounds (5.4 per game), assists (4.2 per game), and three-pointers made (3.0 per game) were all new career highs.

Herro missed the entirety of the playoffs for Miami last year due to a fractured right hand, but the eighth-seeded Heat nevertheless made it all the way to the NBA Finals before losing to the Denver Nuggets.

All of last year’s key contributors are back for the Heat, including Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Duncan Robinson, and Caleb Martin.
