The majority of Florida elderly homes don’t have a 10-foot Goalrilla in the front driveway. However, not all retirees are Larry Bird.
Rick Chandler of Sports Grid reports that Bird is offloading his Naples, Florida mansion.
The property, which is listed for $4.8 million, has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a basketball court—essential amenities for a retired NBA Hall of Famer such as Bird. Beyond that, the house does feature a good number of opulent amenities, such as an infinity pool with a view of the ocean and a “charming” tiki hut.
The 10-seat theater in the 6,000-square-foot house is apparently the greatest place to see vintage film of Bird performing miracles on hardwood floors. It seems like Bird would also like you to watch Legolas use his Mirkwood bow to defeat orcs. In a different manner, they are both marksmen.
There is a 500-gallon saltwater tank in Bird’s mansion, if you enjoy fish (I like mine blackened).
Here’s the question that most of you are probably wondering: why is Bird selling? Is he cash strapped? Somewhere constructing a new mega-mansion?
Bird’s representative Jill Leone claims (via Chris Umpierre of The News-Press) that Bird is too busy to stay in Florida. Following a one-year leave of absence due to health concerns, Bird is set to resume his position as the Indiana Pacers’ president of basketball operations:
Leone told News-Press.com that after agreeing to a multiyear contract, it’s clear he won’t be able to maintain a large residence in Naples. They adore the region. The location is adored by all. Though physically he must be at the Pacers arena right now, I’m sure there will come a moment when he can spend more time there.
Bird has always felt drawn to Indiana and basketball, in fact. This dude is too good to be taken out of his game.
