Braves’ Spencer Strider secures 4th place in NL Cy Young Award Voting

Despite an impressive season with 20 wins, Braves’ right-hander Spencer Strider claimed the fourth spot in the National League Cy Young Award voting. The award went to Blake Snell, who, despite having six fewer victories, led the majors in ERA for the San Diego Padres and earned his place in baseball history as the seventh pitcher to win the top pitching prize in both leagues.

In the balloting conducted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, Snell secured 28 of 30 first-place votes. San Francisco Giants’ Logan Webb took second place, and Zac Gallen of the NL champion Arizona Diamondbacks finished third. Chicago Cubs’ Justin Steele landed in fifth place.

New York Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole clinched the AL Cy Young Award, marking his first win in this category.

Spencer Strider boasted a 20-5 record in the 2023 season with a 3.86 ERA. Throughout the season, he demonstrated his prowess by striking out 281 batters in 186-2/3 innings while maintaining control with only 58 walks.

Despite not receiving any first-place votes, Strider garnered six votes for second place and nine votes for third place in the balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Overall, Strider holds a career record of 32-10 in the majors.
